Album info: Links to translated interviews and/or articles related to this album collected here. Maaya’s blog entry about this release can be found here. In regards to the title, “nikopachi” is a combination of two Japanese onomatopoeia, “niko-niko” and “pachi-pachi” or “pachiri.” “Niko-niko” is used to describe the expression of someone with a beaming happy smile on her face, and “pachi-pachi” or “pachiri” is used to describe the sound of someone clapping, blinking, snapping a picture, or punching. As you can see in the album cover, Maaya is both smiling and punching–nikopachi!

Here, people look for heaven
Livin’ in a fear of God
Losing themselves, hiding forever
Afraid of what they’re not
She spent her whole life
Chasing stardust
And then when she could taste it
A million dollars of pride
And still unhappy

So sad, she couldn’t feel, she couldn’t feel
I know the story
So sad, she couldn’t feel, she couldn’t feel
I know the score

Here I am, I’ve walked a promise
But it can take so long
Here I am, I’ve walked the shadows
It’s time that I move on
With myself, I share the silence
I just walk along
Walk along

Here, people hide in darkness
Watchin’ their shadows grow
Tears of gold or nothing matters
Selling themselves out short
Take diamonds for hope and fame for caring
The things she couldn’t give up
She blows out the candle of love
And loses her way out

So mad, she couldn’t see, she couldn’t see
I know the story
So mad, she couldn’t see, she couldn’t see
I know the score

Here I am, I’ve walked a promise
But it can take so long
Here I am, I’ve walked the shadows
It’s time that I move on
With myself, I share the silence
I just walk along
I walk along

People here choose not to listen
Afraid of what they might hear
Believing in lies and contradiction
Can be so safe and warm
And so many people tried to tell her
You know she wouldn’t listen
A million voices called out
She just walked away

So loud, she couldn’t hear, she couldn’t hear
I know the story
So loud, she couldn’t hear, she wouldn’t hear
I know the score

Here I am, I’ve walked a promise
But it can take so long
Here I am, I’ve walked the shadows
It’s time that I move on
With myself, I share the silence
I just walk along
I walk along

It’s funny you don’t see
It’s something you can’t let go
Living in your world…pretend

It’s just so funny how you lie
It’s time you break free from your past
And touch the truth you hide so well

If you run fast enough
Then maybe you’ll stop yourself
From making the same mistake twice
Can you hear me?
If you try hard enough
Then maybe you’ll rise above
The black and white lies that you tell you

It’s time to turn and face yourself

If you turn fast enough
Then maybe you’ll catch yourself
And try to see things as they are
Open your eyes
If you look long enough
Then maybe you’ll see enough
To change the way you have become
Stop pretending

If you run fast enough
Then maybe you’ll stop yourself
From making the same mistakes again
Please believe me
If you try hard enough
Then maybe you’ll rise above
The black and white lies that you tell
Can you hear me?

Song info: The word “kimidori” (meaning peagreen or yellowish-green) is meaningless, as it is code for Komadori, the name of the children’s theatre troupe Maaya joined as a child, and through which she got the work that led to her current career as a singer/voice actor/stage actor. Maaya wrote about her experiences with Komadori in an I.D essay, available translated by dillpops here: parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Maaya’s liner notes: To us, ten years from now. (Translated by Boobear and neoangel_1 of Jpopmusic.com Forums)

Feel your eyes of malice
Like a bullet through my heart
So unkind
Words,
Like gasoline,
Burn a hole into heaven
Then rain down on me
Everything falls apart

There was a time when our lives were so free
Now just another show
Innocent days slipping far away

Tell me where to go
Love is not enough
When love is not enough
Tell me
Who can I run to?
Love is not enough
Nothing matters

Feeling lost and no where
Cold and shivering
Like a black morning faded
Darkness comes
How could things be so wrong

There was a time when my love set you free
Not very long ago
What I would give for one night, today

Tell me where to go
Love is not enough
When love is not enough
Tell me
Who can I run to?
Love is not enough
Help me, please
To see the truth
Love is not enough
When love is not enough
Tell me
Who can I turn to?
Love is not enough
When love is not enough
What else matters?

Here you are
Daylight’s star
Made out of miracles

Perfection
Of your own
You alone
O so incredible

Each atom
Sings to me
“Set me free
From chains of the physical.”

O free me, O free me

The mirror melts
I’m somewhere else
Inside eternity

Where you on
Outstretched wings
Sing within
The Garden of Everything

Where memories
Call to me
Backward dreams?
Or phantom reality?

Call to me, they call to me

And so here we are
Lovers of Lost Dimensions
Burning supernovas of all sound and sight
Every touch, a temptation
And for every sense, a sensation

Eyes of pure
Deep azure
Quite unbelievable

The sun’s daughter
You’ve been made
Not to fade
Quite inconceivable

Each atom sings to me
“Set me free
From chains of the physical.”

O free me, O free me

A love like ours
A starry flower
Through seasons and centuries

As rivers reach the sea
You’ll reach me
With songs of your symmetry

A small boat
There will float
To far off coasts
The Isle of Infinity

Come with me, O come with me

Here we’ll see
Love’s lost tree
Made out of miracles

Emotions, crystal leaves
To cover me
And you in eternity

Each atom sings to us
Through the blood
“Love is a miracle”

Sings softly, it sings softly

And so here we are
Lovers of Lost Dimensions
Burning supernovas of all sound and sight
Every touch, a temptation
And for every sense, a sensation

And so here we are
Twin stars of brilliant brightness
Lanterns lit by life for all the depths of night
And every day will return us
To arms of the ever eternal

And so here we are
So far from earthy orbits
Burning supernovas of all sound and sight
Where every day will return us
To arms of the ever eternal

Song info: This song features Steve Conte and is a duet where he sings the main English vocals and Maaya sings Japanese in the background. There are no official Japanese lyrics for Maaya’s part, and while native Japanese speakers have attempted to transcribe what she is singing, because it is indistinct there are several possibilities for various spots in the lyrics and thus no way to create a definitive transcription, let alone English translation. Anything you find will not be accurate.
Maaya’s liner notes: Steve emails me, like, all the time (I never reply, because I don’t understand English!). (Translated by Boobear and neoangel_1 of Jpopmusic.com Forums)

been a long road to follow
been there and gone tomorrow
without saying goodbye to yesterday
are the memories I hold still valid?
or have the tears deluded them?
maybe this time tomorrow
the rain will cease to follow
and the mist will fade into one more today
something somewhere out there keeps calling
am i going home?
will I hear someone singing solace to the silent moon?
zero gravity what’s it like?
am i alone?
is somebody there beyond these heavy aching feet
still the road keeps on telling me to go on
something is pulling me
i feel the gravity of it all
