Album info: This is the fourth of Tokyo Jihen’s television-themed albums (Education, Adult, Variety, Sports, and Discovery television). The first-press bonus was an embossed slipcover.

As with before, Ringo created her own translations of the tracklist, which again are not perfect/accurate translations; rather, they were created to mirror the symmetry of the original Japanese titles. (Tracks 1 and 13 mirror each other, as do 2 and 12, and so on.) The list is as follows:

1.  Vivre
2.  Put Your Antenna Up
3.  Season SAYONARA
4.  Win Every Fight
5.  FOUL
6.  Life Will Be Held Even If It Rains
7.  3 min.
8.  Life May Be Monotonous But The Sun Shines
9.  FAIR
10. Ride Every Wave
11. SWEET Spot
12. Put Your Camera Down
13. Adieu

スイートスポット Sweet Spot

If I lose my voice
You’ll be the one reason
Without you here
Only echoes will ring

My song glides
On a wind free and flowing
Keep it nice
Keep it natural

You always know my sweet spot
You conjure up
my voice from down deep inside
And all I know is
you play me right

I just want you to touch me
No harm is ever done
by these things
And if you go away
I’ll never feel like breathing

If you choose to leave
You’ll leave in the season
My song’s been sung
Only echoes still ring

One thing twice
Is too close to nothing
Make it nice
Make it sensual

You always know my sweet spot
You melt away
the ice from down deep inside
But no you don’t know
it feels so right

I just want you to touch me
No joy is ever won
by these things
And if you go away
I’ll never hear my heartbeat

There is no explaining
How we got this far
You never did promise anyone
So when I stop
and I think about it
I wonder is this really
Is this really want you wanted?

I always know your sweet spot
Well you could take a short cut
or take your time
’Cause only I can read
your signals right

You lead me where you want me
But I can never hold in
my weeping
’Cause when you go away
I hear only echoes ring

Translator’s notes: While the title is an idiomatic phrase meaning “stalemate,” the literal translation is “absolute despair.”

No one knows how I live my life
’Cause I don’t belong to anywhere
No one knows the truth inside me
Don’t know the fever
that’s so deep in me

Come on give me fever
I want the shock
to see how much you kill my mind
Won’t you go for your life
Fever… Burns on a brand-new-day

No one knows what’s your struggle
’Cause you’re in the air
Don’t care ’bout your values till U die
Between reality and dreams,
there’s right

Wanna give U fever
I wanna rock U
showing how much I get blind
My past can be a lie
Fever… Burns on a brand-new-day

Good-bye, fever from yesterday
That’s the real knack you all know
Welcome to my fever, today
That will cool down, but never know

I ain’t got fever
No one is intoxicated by nature
Now it’s time to learn
Fever will go down so soon

Won’t you give me fever?
I want the shock
to see how much you kill my mind
Won’t go back to where I was
’Cause that’s the only way to win, oh

Translation notes: [1] “Sunday driver” is a term from the era of the six-day work/school week in Japan (Monday through Saturday, with only Sunday fully off), which has mostly been replaced with a five-day Monday-Friday work/school week nowadays, referring to drivers who only got the chance to drive their cars on Sunday, their one free day.
[2] “Paper driver” is a term referring to a person who has a driver’s license but does not drive.
[3] The term I’ve chosen to translate as “equality among friends and foes”refers to the concept that you should have equal sympathy both for enemies who hate you and those close to you who love you alike, from a place of great compassion and mercy. In Japan it is mostly used at war memorials for the dead meant to honor both allies and enemies as equal victims.
